Kelly Sills
Entrepreneur and Philanthropist
About Me
Entrepreneur and philanthropist Kelly Sills began his life’s work in the construction industry with Coastal Bridge at just 17 years old, when his neighbor and mentor gave him his first job as a laborer and flagger.
He never stopped working for the company, even when attending Louisiana State University for his bachelor’s degree in Construction Engineering and later when he was earning his MBA with an emphasis in Information Systems and Decisions Sciences.
By 2013, when his neighbor, friend, mentor and then-owner of Coastal Bridge was looking to sell, Kelly Sills had saved up his money and purchased the company. A large part of that decision was to protect the jobs of his colleagues and friends.
Coastal Bridge has seen incredible growth since he took the helm – over 33% in his first year, as well as increased revenue. The company has expanded from southern Louisiana into Florida and specializes in asphalt paving, commercial and residential site development, utilities and sewer preparation, heavy civil work like highway and bridge construction and many specialty projects.
Kelly is a man of faith and believes that philanthropy is a major part of the foundation of a good life. A family man, he continually strives to teach his sons, ages 17, 16 and 12 about the importance of giving back.
The Coastal Bridge business model reflects those same values by regularly supporting City Year, a nonprofit organization with the goal of helping schools and children succeed.
Coastal Bridge also makes contributions to the National CASA/GAL (Court Appointed Special Advocates/Guardian ad Litem) Association for Children, the Special Olympics, the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society and the Baton Rouge Symphony.
